Change and continuity

Now that we are about 48 hours from Flag Day, conversation about The Bid List has really picked up again. People are nervous but very much ready to get going - and yet I'd really like to just settle in here for a while. The last six years have been lived in five different cities, an even quicker rate of turnover than the 2-year post rotation of an entry level FSO. I'm pretty sure the pace of change is aggravating a more general sense of bewilderment about a lot of things.

Still, there has been continuity in the midst of change. The last two weekends have been genuinely happy times spent with new colleagues and old friends from the DC, Kunming, and Boston chapters of life. There was berry-picking, touring monuments at night, shopping at Eastern Market, and volunteering at a wedding, among other things for which I am so grateful. To not be completely cut off from the past seems so important right now.

All these things have been much-needed reminders of God's continued faithfulness. And while they do give one reason to hope that the future might just be ok, they make it so much harder to think about leaving DC again! "Painting Pictures of Egypt" could be the theme song of this week.

Two days until the next two years are decided....
